A6000 with a Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 @ f/ 2.8. Sharpness drops off quickly wider than 2.8. Bokeh is smooooooth and chromatic aberration is pretty well managed compared to my Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 which is slightly sharper at mid-aperture but hey buddy you want some purple?! .

there ain’t no color like Super Takumar color...

I have a 35/2.3 for sale.... original Takumar, not super... so the coatings don’t have that same je ne sais quoi, but HOT DAMN, does that lens perform optically. It flares pretty badly, but keep it pointed in the right direction and the results are flat out baller. Beyond f4 it has ZERO CA, and the sharpness is mad serious. below f4, the bokeh is like swireled cream and the corner sharpness roll- off is like a soft-focus filter. Amazing lens, especially considering it was the first retro-focus wide-angle design ever produced and the optic was designed before computer modeling.

The Super Takumar is coated but... hooo boy is it yellow. Damn thing is doing its best imitation of a banana both in color and radiation. I need to UV treat it badly.

My other Takumar lens is an SMC 28 f3.5 and I think it’s the most versatile and useful walking-around lens I’ve ever owned. 28mm on a crop body is just perfect for snapshots and crowded carshows.

c’mon man, the yellow is DESIRABLE! It’s like a free instagram filter on all your shots ;) actually, I really kinda like what it does to the color response of the lesnes, I find the Asahi/Pentax optics to be a little cold and lifeless as they came from the factory... but then again, I’m a minolta-head and have issues with what Sony has done to the color response and micro-contrast in the legacy optics... I KNOW they are objectively “better” but I don’t like them damnit!

I have divested my Alpha-mount system, but if I ever re-invest I think it’ll have to buy into Fujifilm’s X-system, or else FF Sony for maximum vintage lens compatibility.

That’s a bit expensive for the 55 1.8 lens. The price of the camera itself is negligible, I’d go hunt on eBay for a couple months.

I was looking on eBay for a bit too, some of them are going hilariously cheap. The shipping up here is a bit brutal though. But that’ll still likely be the way to go. I’d be getting more so to be a manual film camera to play with, since I’m not reading great things about getting them to work with Nikon digital bodies
